Cosmetology: CIP120403
This course follows the guidelines set by the state for cosmetology licensure; 1000 hours of instruction/skill development. The students take the state exam for licensing at the end of the three courses.
Course One:
Students will learn the history of cosmetology, life skills that include professional image and communications. They will learn the principals and practices related to infection control. As they learn the principals of hair design, they will learn about the properties of the hair and scalp. The hands-on skills the students will master are shampooing, rinsing, and conditioning; haircutting, and hair styling.

Course Two:
This course introduces the students to more advanced techniques including braiding and braid extensions, wigs and hair enhancements. Hair coloring techniques including chemical texture services are introduced. The skin system will also be introduced including the histology of the skin, hair removal, facials, make-up application and barbering/shaving. [300 hours]
Course Three:
Students get a good understanding of anatomy and physiology as well as basics of chemistry and electricity. Nail structure and growth, manicuring and Pedicuring techniques are learned along with advanced nail techniques. Students also learn all aspects of the salon business, how to write resumes and seek employment, what is expected of them on the job. Students have opportunity to practice their skills on clients who come to the school. Throughout the first and second year, students are engaged in instruction and learning of applied mathematics. Students take the state licensing exam at the end of the 1000 hours. [500 hours]
Fashion Design & Decoration: CIP: 190906
Students entering this program will acquire basic knowledge needed for all areas of the fashion industry. They will be introduced to style and line, figure analysis, color theory, garment construction, textiles, and numerous hand sewing techniques.
Course One:
This course covers a series of four modules in which students learn the operation of the power sewing machine, basic sewing techniques and introduction to dressmaking and craft items.

Course Two:
This course covers a series of five modules in which students will learn maintenance of the sewing machine. They are introduced to tailoring and clothing alteration and maintenance. Students continue to learning dressmaking skills, and they are introduced to knitting and crocheting techniques. This course also reviews the basic construction of garments
[330 hours]
Course Three:
Fashion drawing and wardrobe planning skills begin this course. The history of fashion is explored. Students are able to identify silhouettes and use muslin material to understand draping. The students also become involved with projects for interior design and upholstery. They also do a monthly craft project and learn advanced skills in alteration and repair. Resume writing, and job application skills are enhanced through portfolio completion. All students receive applied math instruction throughout the two-year program.
