Introduction To Fashion Careers
Introduction to Fashion Careers: CIP 190906 grade 9-10
This course of study is for special needs students in grades 9 and 10
The purpose of this course is two fold. First, it serves as an Employment Orientation Course, whereas the students successfully completing of the courses are mainstreamed into regular career-technical programs. Secondly, it serves to prepare the students toward entrance level jobs leading to a career in fashion as well as the needle trades. Students will have the opportunity to showcase and model their garments in the school’s annual fashion show as a means of developing cooperative attitudes and leadership skills necessary for success in today’s business world.
Course One:
This course covers a series of four modules in which students learn the operation of the power sewing machine, basic sewing techniques and introduction to dressmaking and craft items.
Course Two:
This course covers a series of five modules in which students learning maintenance of the sewing machine. They are introduced to tailoring and clothing alteration and maintenance. Students continue to learning dressmaking skills, and they are introduced to knitting and crocheting techniques
Course Three
Advanced learning takes place in this course covering 9 modules. Students learn advanced power sewing techniques, advanced dressmaking, tailoring, clothing care, knitting, and crocheting techniques. They are also introduced to interior decorating products. All aspects of the fashion industry are covered including inventory of supplies and equipment, advanced sewing machine maintenance, and job readiness skills such as resume writing. Students engage in applied mathematics instruction and learning throughout the two-year program.
