Advisory Board

In keeping with the National Academy Foundation Model, the academy programs are guided by an Advisory Board made up of members from the community, business and industry, ACIT instructional staff and administration, Atlantic Cape Community College, the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, Rowan University, and the Federal Aviation Agency.

Academy Advisory Board Roles and Responsibilities

The Advisory Board of an academy program provides a platform for communication between educators and representatives from the public and private sector within a community.  Advisory Board members offer advice, encouragement, and guidance to the program director and staff.  The academies rely upon the assistance of board members to provide students with opportunities for careers in a specific industry.

The Advisory Board promotes partnerships between businesses and the academies, and works with the Academy Director in providing the following essential functions:

  • Provides industry expertise to support academy curriculum
  • Assists in student recruitment
  • Provides paid summer internships for academy students
  • Encourages other community businesses to establish paid partnerships for students
  • Provides access to industry training classes for teachers
  • Provides industry familiarization tours for teachers and students
  • Provides job shadowing opportunities for students and teachers
  • Assists in fundraising to support academy activities
  • Assists in promotional activities for the academy
  • Assists in expansion of academy programs
  • Provides scholarships for outstanding students
  • Serves as an advocate for the academy to educational, political and business communities
