Academies

A Brief History of ACIT
Much thought was given as to the most appropriate program with which to start an academy. Logically, due to the employment opportunities in our region, in September of 2000, we opened the Academy of Culinary and Hotel Careers. Now that academy is called the Academy of Culinary Arts and Hosptality Management due to a broader view of the career posibilities. In September 2001, the doors to the Academy of Information Technology was initiated. Then, in September of 2004 The William J. Flynn Academy of Health Sciences and Medicine opened its doors.

In September of 2007, the newest academy, The Academy of Math Engineering & Science, will open its doors.

General Information
The Academies are full-time, four year high school programs in which the student receives both career focused and academic courses.

Students who enroll in these academies learn from skilled industry and academic professionals and have the opportunity to participate in paid and unpaid internships. Upon graduation these students will have the inside track for high-level positions in industry or they attend college.

Agreements are in place to allow students to earn college credits for courses that are completed while attending the academies. Atlantic Cape Community College has joined the Atlantic County Institute of Technology to form a partnership to provide students with a continuum of educational and career services in Atlantic County. Additionally, academy graduates will complete the prerequisites to qualify for entrance into many four-year colleges and universities.

Admissions
Admission to the Atlantic County Institute of Technology is determined by an independent review and consensus verifying system. The admissions committee is made up of the vice-principal, guidance counselors and instructors. Prospective students are evaluated in terms of: ability to benefit from technical education, academic levels, attendance, aptitude, interest and work habits. Please note that all adult students are required to take the Adult Test Of Basic Skills as part of the admission process. Upon a thorough review of this data a decision is made regarding admission status.
